Numbers, Time & Dates
Goal: Say numbers confidently, tell the time, and read/write dates correctly. Bilingual tips + quick practice.
الهدف: نطق الأرقام بثقة، قول الوقت، وقراءة/كتابة التواريخ بشكل صحيح. شروحات بالعربية وتمارين سريعة.
1) Numbers: Counting & Big Numbers
Cardinal numbers answer “How many?”. 0–20 are special; after 20, add -ty (thirty, forty) and join with a hyphen: twenty-one, thirty-five.
الأعداد الأساسية تجيب عن "كم؟". الأرقام 0–20 خاصة؛ بعد 20 نضيف -ty (thirty, forty) ونصل بشرطة: twenty-one، thirty-five.

- Use and mainly in British English: one hundred and twenty-three (123). In American English, one hundred twenty-three is also common.
- تُستخدم and غالبًا في البريطانية: one hundred and twenty-three. وفي الأمريكية شائع بدون and: one hundred twenty-three.
- Large numbers: 2,500 = two thousand five hundred. 1.5 = one point five.
- الأعداد الكبيرة: 2,500 = two thousand five hundred. العدد العشري 1.5 = one point five.
2) Ordinal Numbers (1st, 2nd…)
Use ordinals for dates, order, floors: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th… Pronounce: first, second, third, fourth.
نستخدم الأعداد الترتيبية للتواريخ والترتيب والطوابق: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th… النطق: first (الأول)، second (الثاني)…
- 11th, 12th, 13th are all -th (eleventh, twelfth, thirteenth) — exceptions to 1/2/3.
- الأعداد 11 و12 و13 تأخذ -th (eleventh, twelfth, thirteenth) — استثناء.
3) Telling the Time
Digital: 7:30 → “seven thirty”; 14:05 → “two oh five p.m.”
رقمي: 7:30 → “seven thirty”؛ 14:05 → “two oh five p.m.”
- o'clock: 3:00 → “three o'clock”.
- past: 3:15 → “a quarter past three”.
- to: 3:45 → “a quarter to four”.
- half past: 3:30 → “half past three”.
- التعابير: o'clock للساعة تمامًا، past = و، to = إلا، half past = والنصف، quarter = الربع.

Tip: Use a.m. (morning) and p.m. (afternoon/evening) in 12‑hour times. 24‑hour times often omit a.m./p.m.

4) Dates (Formats & Reading)
Recommended (clear): 5 July 2025 (UK/International) or July 5, 2025 (US).
المستحسن: 5 July 2025 (بريطاني/دولي) أو July 5, 2025 (أمريكي).
- Avoid numeric only (05/07/2025) — it’s ambiguous internationally.
- تجنّب الأرقام فقط (05/07/2025) لأنها مُلتبسة دوليًا.
- Say: the fifth of July twenty twenty‑five (UK) / July fifth twenty twenty‑five (US).
- طريقة القراءة: the fifth of July 2025 (بريطاني) أو July fifth 2025 (أمريكي).

5) Years, Phone Numbers & Prices
- Years: 1999 → “nineteen ninety‑nine”; 2000 → “two thousand”; 2003 → “two thousand (and) three”; 2016 → “twenty sixteen”.
- السنوات: 1999 → “nineteen ninety‑nine”، 2000 → “two thousand”، 2003 → “two thousand (and) three”.
- Phone numbers: say each digit: 0791 250 4488 → “oh seven nine one two five oh four four double eight”.
- أرقام الهاتف: نطق كل رقم على حدة؛ يمكن قول “double” للأرقام المكررة.
- Prices: $3.50 → “three dollars fifty” / “three fifty”; £1.99 → “one ninety‑nine”. Decimals use point: 2.75 → “two point seven five”.
- الأسعار: $3.50 → “three dollars fifty”؛ نستخدم كلمة point للأعداد العشرية.
